What interactions leave us feeling deflated? What interactions leave us feeling inspired, motivated and happy? For a few, self-aware and emotionally intelligent employees, the interaction doesn’t matter – they know they are at choice and can choose to allow others to influence their happiness or not. However, this skill is as rare as a Polar Bear in the tropics! It’s hard not to take things personal when faced with a negative nelly. Furthermore, even those rare, high-EQ folks, won’t stick around when the general tone of the workplace is negative and stressful.
Happiness is fostered when leadership encourages pleasant interactions and joyful moods. I’m not talking about inauthentic platitudes forced upon our employees. We all understand why the cheesy do-good cheerleader in the movies is annoying (remember, Patty Simcox in Grease?)
