Learning to be a “manager-as-coach” is a skill that can be developed. Managers who serve as coaches for their teams need to develop teams who practice “genuine” team collaboration – not group work, often described as cooperating and coordinating with others. This requires a manager (and people on the team) who functions with a collaborative mindset – and skill-set. Supported by a collaborative culture and coaching (internal or external), the manager-as-coach can leverage a collaborative mindset (and skill-set) to enable teams to produce win-win outcomes
